  1. Had to find a comment starting point. Let's discuss the connotations this cat plays to A Doll's House by Henrik Ibsen, written in 1879. The cat is thought by many to be a feminine symbol, as it has been used to represent poise, beauty and grace for thousands of years. A Doll's House is considered by some, to be the first feminine play, which the cat can represent through its appearance. At the time of Ibsen's writings, it was intolerable for women to not strive towards the very best in physical beauty, child-rearing, tending to a house and so on. This cat stretches beyond that idea because of the manner in which it lazes about, content in slacking off as cat's do. Thus, the cat is a representation of both the old world mindset for women and the new one for them to be able to focus on more than what's initially expected of them.
